Cassandra Programme

EURECAT, the Technology Centre of Catalonia is leading a dynamic programme of initiatives to address the socio-political effects of climate change, with an emphasis on health, migration, gender equality and conflict.

The three webinars planned for 2025 will give all those interested an opportunity to interact with people working on the ground, whilst observing the progress of the actions implemented through the CASSANDRA Programme.

Meet the local climate forums

23rd of January 2025 | 14.00 to 16.00 Time CET

An opportunity to hear at first hand, the challenges being faced by the leaders of the CASSANDRA Pilot Local Climate Forums from Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Nigeria, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Palestine, Uganda, South Africa and Spain. You will be able to question the pilot site leaders and express your opinions and the opinions of your respective organisations regarding the aims and objectives of the CASSANDRA Programme.

The leaders of the CASSANDRA Pilot Local Climate Forums

15.00 – 15.55 Time CET | Questions and Answers
The online audience will have the opportunity to question the leaders of the Local Climate Forums and express their opinions regarding the early stages of the CASSANDRA Programme.

Africa and the mediterranean, progress and problems

12th of June 2025 | 14.00 to 16.00 Time CET

The leaders of the CASSANDRA Pilot Local Climate Forums will explain the progress which has been made and just as importantly, the obstacles which have been encountered over the previous six months.

You will be able to question the pilot site leaders and coordinators of the CASSANDRA Programme and express your opinions and the opinions of your respective organisations regarding the aims and objectives of the CASSANDRA Programme.

The leaders of the CASSANDRA Pilot Local Climate Forums from Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Nigeria, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Palestine, Uganda, South Africa and Spain as well as representatives from new Local Climate Forums in Libya, Italy and Greece, will describe the principal obstacles which they have had to overcome whilst addressing the effects of climate change on health, migration, gender equality and conflict within the scope of their local communities.

The online audience will have the opportunity to question the leaders of the Local Climate Forums and express their opinions regarding the results of the first six months of the CASSANDRA Programme.

The socio-political effects of climate change beyond africa and the mediterranean

12th of December 2025 | 14.00 to 16.00 Time CET

In preparation for the CASSANDRA Conference 2026, CASSANDRA followers will be invited to express their opinion regarding the work of the Pilot Local Climate Forums and the establishment of 150 Local Climate Forums in the Mediterranean region and Africa.

They will meet representatives of Local Climate Forums who begin their work in India, South-East Asia and the Americas.

The recruitment of CASSANDRA Science Embassies will be described and the results of the Science-Cultural Communication Training Workshop will be considered.

What are CASSANDRA Science Embassies? How do they support local communities and how do they enhance the concept of Science-Culture-Diplomacy?

The Results of the CASSANDRA Science – Cultural Communication Training presented by Irina Calancea, CEO of Fluent and Green and Jaqui Goldin of the University of the Western Cape (South Africa)

The Opinion of CASSANDRA Followers – The online audience will have the opportunity to express their opinions regarding the results of the first year of the CASSANDRA Programme.

Presentation of the Programme of the CASSANDRA CONFERENCE 2026. An introduction to the third CASSANDRA Conference organised by EURECAT, which will take place in Barcelona and be streamed online on the 4th and 5th of February 2026.
