The network includes Local Climate Forums, Science Embassies and a wider ecosystem of partners working together to address the impacts of climate change on local communities.

CASSANDRA LOCAL CLIMATE FORUMS

Community initiatives addressing highly challenging, climate-induced scenarios

Cassandra Local Climate Forums (LCFs) are a core operational pillar of the CASSANDRA programme. Created by citizens concerned for the future of their communities, the LCFs are pre-existing initiatives which address one or more of the socio-political consequences of climate change, including public health impacts, gender inequality and human rights, migration and conflict.

Cassandra supports, promotes and disseminates the vital work of these entities who, in turn, provide Cassandra with the evidence, the vitality and the inspiration to advocate for long-term, sustainable and effective measures that are brought to the attention of national, international and supranational administrations and organisations.

Cassandra’s pilot implementation resulted in a network of independent, local community actions in Africa, the Western Asian Region, Europe, India, South-East Asia and the Americas. It is thanks to the collective efforts of these individual projects that Cassandra is capable of effectively demonstrating the importance of local people initiating and implementing community actions if supranational ambitions are to be translated into tangible results.

CASSANDRA SCIENCE EMBASSIES

Voluntary expert advice, if and when required

The CASSANDRA Science Embassies form the scientific and expert backbone of the CASSANDRA Programme. They bring together scientists, researchers, practitioners, universities, research centres, and specialised organisations committed to making knowledge accessible and useful for communities facing climate change challenges.

The contribution of Science Embassies is entirely voluntary. Members offer their expertise when communities specifically request support and when their knowledge can help address an urgent local challenge. Science Embassies provide practical, evidence-based guidance tailored to local needs, while respecting scientific integrity and community leadership.

At the heart of this approach is solidarity: a non-commercial, mission-driven effort that connects communities with expert knowledge when it is needed most, helping local challenges be addressed effectively and collaboratively.

BEFORE YOU REGISTER

Cassandra facilitates connections, dialogue and opportunities for collaboration while respecting the independence, autonomy and decision-making processes of all participating organizations and individuals.

We welcome individuals, community initiatives, organisations and institutions interested in contributing to Cassandra’s mission.

  • Registration on the Cassandra network is completely free of charge and involves no membership fees. Participation in Cassandra does not imply any financial commitment from participants and organizations may discontinue their participation at any time by informing the Cassandra coordination team.
  • Local Climate Forums are open to both registered organisations and informal community initiatives. Legal registration is not required, although some partnerships or opportunities may require additional verification at a later stage.
  • Science Embassies participate on a voluntary, non-commercial basis. They share knowledge and expertise when requested by communities and when they have the capacity to contribute.
  • Participation in CASSANDRA is based on mutual trust, solidarity, and collaboration. Communities are not required to seek support from Science Embassies, and Science Embassies are not obligated to provide assistance beyond their availability and willingness to help.
  • CASSANDRA facilitates connections and collaboration opportunities while fully respecting the independence and decision-making autonomy of all participants. Participation does not create contractual obligations between members.
  • Registration does not constitute approval, partnership status or eligibility for funding.
  • Acceptance into the Cassandra network does not imply eligibility for funding, financial support or donor contributions.
