ADVANCES IN THE SOCIOPOLITICAL AWARENESS OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

5th February 2026 | 14.00 – 15.30 CET

Description

Since the COVID pandemic, it has been widely recognised that the objective supply of necessary data and solutions by experts from a vast range of specialised fields confers upon said experts, a vital socio-political role. To fulfil that role, experts must be capable of communicating often highly complex knowledge to the local community inhabitant, the public administrator, the elected representative, the industrialist and the owner of an SME in order to counteract such phenomena as social media and populist propaganda grounded on nothing more than prejudice and the desire to deliberately misinform.

CASSANDRA, in response to the demands of supranational institutions such the United Nations, The World Bank, the European Union and the OECD, has developed an initial curriculum which seeks to act as a base for national and international academic authorities to teach first-year university students and experienced professionals alike, no matter their speciality, how to communicate with laypeople their knowledge in an accessible manner.

This session will investigate the successes and the pitfalls, the advances and the obstacles encountered in what constitutes a determined attempt to overcome ‘the silence of science’.

Presenter:

  • DR. RICHARD ELELMAN, Head of Politics, Eurecat and Leader of Cassandra
